Non-standard crypto
Track externally held crypto with explicit identities, network details and dated valuations.
Use this path to show externally held crypto, including instruments outside a standard trading catalogue, with positions supplied by your platform or custodian. You can track native coins, network-specific tokens, stablecoins and other crypto instruments without adding them to Motif's trading catalogue.
1. Agree instrument identities
Give each instrument a stable externalId from your system. Include its name, exact symbol, blockchain and network type. The symbol supports mixed case and Unicode.
Native coin with no contract address
Preserve its network identity and omit address
Token with a verified contract address
Include address with its blockchain and network type
Same symbol on different networks
Use different external instrument IDs
Missing address or trading eligibility
Leave the address absent; do not invent an address or send a buyable field
An ID must keep the same symbol, blockchain, network type and address across updates. Review uncertain mappings with Motif before the first import. If an identity later changes, use a new ID and replace the holding in a subsequent snapshot.
A token catalogue is a starting point for this mapping. It does not contain the quantities, cash balance and dated valuations needed to value a portfolio.
2. Agree the price source
For this integration, you supply dated unit valuations, for example from your portfolio administrator or custodian, in the portfolio currency. Missing valuations remain unpriced. Use observed prices for stablecoins and gold-backed tokens too; Motif does not assume a peg.
These externally identified holdings do not automatically inherit market prices or history from a same-symbol trading token. Current values and allocations can be calculated from your supplied valuations. Historical return and risk windows are unavailable for books containing these instruments until a verified history integration is implemented. Agree that work separately if those analytics are part of your launch.
3. Prepare a test snapshot
Save this as snapshot.json. These are illustrative quantities and prices for testing, not current quotes or a suggested allocation. Replace the instruments and observations with your agreed pilot data.

}4. Check the pilot together
This test snapshot values to 6099.98 USD using its supplied prices. Confirm both positions appear as crypto, with priceSource: "manual" indicating the supplied valuations. The API accepts up to eight decimal places; review instruments needing finer price or quantity precision with Motif before proceeding.
Update a quantity and a valuation in revision 2. Then, in the test portfolio, omit a valuation and verify missingPrice: true and isComplete: false. No live quote should silently replace it. Check a representative native coin, network-specific token and any unusual symbol from your own catalogue.
Portfolio tracking does not enable purchases, swaps or custody. If trading is part of your experience, agree that separate integration during onboarding.
